Filhos de Gandhy
Ensaio sobre o desfile do Afoxé Filhos de Gandhy no centro de Salvador durante o carnaval. Fundado em 1949 por estivadores do porto, o bloco reverencia a cultura afro-brasileira, inspira-se na não-violência de Mahatma Gandhi e mantém um ritual de forte carga simbólica. As imagens acompanham o cortejo, atentos aos trajes, à cadência do ijexá e à ocupação ritual do espaço urbano por corpos que celebram fé, memória e identidade negra.
Essay on the parade of the Afoxé Filhos de Gandhy through the streets of downtown Salvador during Carnival. Founded in 1949 by dockworkers, the group pays tribute to Afro-Brazilian culture, draws inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence, and upholds a ritual charged with deep symbolism. The images follow the procession, attentive to the details of the costumes, the cadence of the ijexá rhythm, and the ritual occupation of urban space by bodies celebrating faith, memory, and Black identity.
